Art Isn't My Hobby

Art definitely isn't a hobby for me anymore. Art has been a passion of mine since I was little. Being creative is in my blood. I have tried so many creative jobs in the past but what really brings me joy is painting alone in my studio. I have been told by many in the past that art isn't a "real career". I'm proud of myself for pushing against the negativity and creating a life that truly algins with my soul. Have you ever felt this push back when talking about your future? I made a list of step you can come back to when you need a little guidance.

Steps To Help You Push Back Against Negativity

It can be challenging when others don't see the value in something that you're passionate about. But It's important to remember that their opinion doesn't define your worth or the validity of your chosen profession.

Here are some strategies that may help you push back against negativity and doubt:

  1. Stay focused on your goals: Remind yourself of why you chose to pursue a creative career in the first place. What motivates you to create? What do you hope to achieve through your craft? Keeping your long-term vision in mind can help you stay committed to your path.
  2. Surround yourself with supportive people: Seek out friends and family who believe in you. Spending time with people who encourage and uplift you can help counteract any negative messages you may receive from others.
  3. Post About Your Process: Sometimes people don't understand the value of art because they haven't been exposed to it in a meaningful way. Share your work with others, explain your process, and discuss the impact that art has. This can help others see the value in what you do.
  4. Rethink negative comments: Instead of internalizing negative comments, try to reframe them in a more positive light. For example, if someone says "Art isn't a real job." think of it as "Art is a challenging career choice but I have a passion and talent for this. Not everyone can do this, which makes me unique."
  5. Believe in yourself: The most important thing is to believe in yourself and your abilities. Remember that being a creative is a legitimate profession, and that your work has value and meaning. By staying true to yourself and your vision, you can build a fulfilling and successful career in the arts.
