How My Paintings Have Changed In February

It's so neat to look back on the last month and see my style shift to full background paintings. Painting objects without backgrounds has been neat. But I have enjoyed making these mini scenes come to life in a new way. Adding the background feels like a step closer to what I imagine my art style could be.

My style has changed so much this past year and I'm settling into a rhythm. I have gravitated towards a more realism style lately. Learning blending techniques and adding in more tiny details. The way I look at reference photos has changed. I focus in on smaller details that will create depth to these mini pieces.



Trying New Styles

I've been listening to a lot of art podcasts lately and they've inspired me to dig deeper into my practice. Experimenting with new styles has shown me what I like and don't like. For example; I see a lot of oil painters using loose brush strokes and big movements as they work on giant canvases. I've tried some more loose style paintings in my free time but it doesn't please my neurodiverse brain. I gravitate towards realism so my brain can get into that "flow" state. This flow state is what I love the most as an artist. It gives me a chance to get fully into my work.
