About The Artist

About The Artist

Hi, my name is Megan Josol. I'm a 29 year old artist that lives on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. I have been creating art since I was a kid. When I was little my parents always knew I'd grow up to be an artist because I spent hours alone in my room drawing and painting. Life throws crazy challenges at us sometimes and art has always got me through them.

A Little Bit About My Past

In elementary school art was my main way of communicating. I'm neurodiverse (Dyslexia & ADHD) so I struggled back then to put my thoughts into words. Art gave me a voice and something to fall back on. I was that "art kid" in my classes. I spent most of my youth creating art for school projects and local fall fairs. I was the one to get the art awards and won prizes for drawing "well".

As a teenager my high school timetable always had a visual arts, drama or technology course on it. I actually planned on pursuing art for postsecondary too, but life would throw more curveballs at me and I never ended up doing that. I still did art in my free time for fun or to destress but adult responsibilities like jobs and feeding myself got in the way of my art career, until the last few years.

I feel very grateful now to have a husband (Arvin) that supports my artistic passion. (He's actually the web/cloud developer that designed this website for me.) I am currently doing art full-time with his support.

Why I Love Mini Art

I spend my days in my art studio, working on mini paintings and handmade jewelry. Mini oil paintings are my specialty but I recently started sculpting my own jewelry too. I love creating cute, nostalgic, feel good, colourful art. I actually worked as a certified nail technician many years ago and fell in love with the tiny details and beautiful coloured sets during my time working at a salon.

Mini art has brought so much joy into my life over the years. I wanted to bring that love I have into the art space.

I'm a strong believer in taking small steps every day and how it can help you achieve bigger goals. These small paintings and creations might not seem like much, but all together it's a beautiful reflection of how small things every day help you grow.

What I'm Currently Up To

I have spent the last year taking online courses about video editing, content creation and have been mentored by a few artists in the community. I'm currently doing an online Digital Marketing & E-Commerce program through a local college too. I hope to keep expanding my skills and learning everything I can related to art, content creation and teaching.

I also recently started running a weekly Mini Paint Challenge for my online community. It's been so fun teaching my lovely followers/subscribers my oil painting techniques through a YouTube LIVE stream.

What I Enjoy Doing In My Spare Time

I love so many things outside of painting too. I spend my evenings hanging out with my husband (Arvin), our 8 year old son, 2 cats (Monah & Kit Kat) and our dog (Toby). We enjoy playing board games and video games on the more chill nights. Then when we're feeling adventurous or energetic we love paddleboarding, swimming, hiking, gardening and cooking.

My husband and I also enjoy bodybuilding at the local gym every week and partake in local swing and blues dances when time allows. My husband and I met swing dancing many years ago actually.

My husband also enjoys doing art with me in the studio too. We enjoy inviting friends over for art parties. We surround ourselves with as many positive, creative people as we can!!

Here's a video of my husband trying out oil painting for the first time with me recently! We have so much fun together!
